An attempt was made to identify the chromosomes from different species genomes in BC₂ progenies of Erianthus procerus x Saccharum officinarum through multi-color GISH (MCGISH). The population derived cross between a BC1 hybrid (GU 12-14) and commercial variety, Co 16018. BC2 were studied for their somatic chromosome number two cytotypes observed, i.e., 2n=92 (2) 2n=96 (5). revealed that majority having nine chromosomes, except 2 clones (25-5 25-10) with one fragment. methodology standardized it distinguished genomes. Interspecific recombination also detected cells clone, 25-10. hybridity introgressed lines has been confirmed amplification specific tandem repeat sequences.
